The path light takes
A photograph is light, shaped by an opening, measured for a duration, recorded at a chosen sensitivity.
Every photograph is the same physical event. Light leaves a source, bounces off your subject, passes through a stack of glass elements, squeezes through an adjustable hole, and lands on a sensor for a measured slice of time.
Four things decide what you get. The lens determines how much of the world is included and how the planes of that world relate to each other. The aperture is the hole, and its size controls both brightness and how much of the scene reads as sharp. The shutter decides how long the sensor is exposed, which is what turns movement into either a frozen instant or a streak. The ISO setting decides how aggressively the camera amplifies the signal it collected.
Notice what is missing from that list: the camera brand, the megapixel count, and the price. Those matter, but they are downstream. A photographer who understands the chain above will get more out of a ten year old body than someone who does not will get out of a new one.
